Honestly going into this book, I didn’t think I was gonna love it as much as I did. Which is becoming a thing with Helena hunting. Every time I read a new one of her books I think it can’t possibly get any better and it does.
Originally for the first couple of chapters I wasn’t feeling this book because I felt it had a completely different vibe to the rest of the series and it was definitely written differently. Instead of learning about the couple as they get together this couple has already been together for two years but that’s what makes it great because although they had been together they hadn’t really taken those steps to being in a relationship and so this book explored that.
I love that every single one of Helenas characters have some kind of backstory and some kind of healing that they need to do. Usually the male in the relationship has more healing to do and I really respect that powerplay because it’s really nice reading about a vulnerable guy instead of a damsel in distress all the time.
And Darren was no different I felt myself absolutely rejoicing when there is little bambino was learning how to actually put himself out there, be in a proper relationship, and share his feelings.
I also liked the mystery that came with Charlene and constantly wondering what her backstory was, and that made the slightly climatic drama towards the end even more intriguing.
I think one of the reasons I also absolutely adore this book was because I love seeing how the other characters are when the main focus is an on them because Helena has a way of really showing you what her characters are like when they’re the side characters. I fully have read this entire series purely to get glimpses of all the different characters as much as possible. I love every single one of them.
Also: HELENA IS AN ABSOLUTE QUEEN AT EPILOGUES AND THIS ONE WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!!!!!
I could honestly go for an entire new series just with all the same characters and seeing how their lives play out because I love them all so much.
This series will definitely hold a special place in my heart forever
