Nora Roberts once again demonstrated with this exciting story why she is one of the best. The characters are so vivid and unique that I could barely take my eyes off the pages, eager to know what would happen to them next. I devoured the novel in one breath, unable to resist the ever-growing tension.

However, despite the excellent characterization of the main characters, the underdevelopment of the antagonists constantly bothered me. Those powerful antagonists who held the Earth in their grasp for 20 years were ultimately defeated in a way that seemed too simplistic to me. The battles were described somewhat chaotically and clumsily, and I missed more dramatic moments in which the main characters would suffer more loss.

The end of the novel may be a bit too happy for my taste. While Joe's and Mick's deaths were beautifully written and emotionally powerful, I missed a bit more unpredictability and bitter consequences that would add depth to the story.

Despite these minor shortcomings, Cronicles of the One is another masterpiece by Nora Roberts who still manages to enchant her readers with masterful storytelling and vivid characters.
