Madame
by Sara Cate
I'm so sad to see this series end, as it is one of my favorites. I waited a long time for this book and I was so excited to know that Eden (or Madame Kink) would be getting her own book. I thought it was pretty good, but maybe not as great as I had hoped it would be. I loved that it's FFM, so let's start there. Sara Cate did them justice, and each and every scene was hotter than the last. I thought the heavy topics included in this book were handled very well. I loved that we got to see Eden's backstory and it's honestly nothing like what I thought it would be. It helped me understand why she is the strong woman she is. However, I think therein also lies the problem. In every previous book, Eden was such a force to be reckoned with, who was so sure of herself and so confident and very accepting of herself and her identity. In this book, that was missing. She was indecisive, guarded, let her past define her to the point that it's literally all she talked about and she just didn't feel like the same character from the rest of the series as she did in her own book. I was disappointed in this aspect. I also think the poly relationship wasn't handled as well in this book as it was in Give Me More. It was kind of odd how Jade fell SO fast for Eden? She goes from being straight and super jealous and territorial and insecure about her boyfriend preferring kink, to all of the sudden being bisexual (or Edensexual, I guess?) and jumping right into this new poly life without batting an eye. It was a very strange set up, not believable and way too fast. I LOVED the poly, MMF relationship in Give Me More so I thought this would be comparable, but it wasn't. It almost felt like... everyone was cheating on everyone and "I'll have my cake and eat it too" scenario and I didn't like that at all. A large portion of the book gave me the ick. What I am excited for is it seemed to end on a cliffhanger with Jack. I'm REALLY hoping we get his book, as part of another series or a standalone because you can't have him say and do those things in the epilogue and then not give us the story. Overall, this series is so good but this book was a miss for me. I think Sara Cate's writing has gone downhill, and I sincerely hope something shifts soon.
