A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
by George R.R. Martin
If you're tired of waiting for Winds of Winter to come out before you die and you haven't already picked up A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, then I urge you to do so! I had SO MUCH FUN gallivanting around the Seven Kingdoms with Dunk and Egg, it was amazing to be immersed back into GRRM's epic high fantasy world.
.
I absolutely adore ASOIAF, but even I realise that sometimes GRRM can ramble on a bit, especially during the big history dumps. This book is made up of three separate adventures though, and is therefore snappier! The action and antics never stop, and the illustrations made it even more fun. There are seriously illustrations on almost every other page to really help you visualise Dunk and Egg's adventures if Martin's rich prose isn't quite enough! I loved all three of the sequences, but I think my fave was the second one, as I just loved Lady Rohanne!
.
It was also great to read a book set in the time of Targaryen rule; there are hints all through ASOIAF of their bad/mad/sad kings and princes, and we finally get to see some of them in action! I got confused by a lot of the names, but what's new there? There was no shortage of back-stabbing knights, lordly feuds, rebellion, all jam-packed into this volume!
.
Definitely recommend this gem! The only thing I'd complain about was that none of our faves are there... but I knew this going in, it's set 100 years in the past so I am not allowed to complain that the Hound's not there calling everyone a c**t haha!
