Josh and Gemma Make a Baby
by Sarah Ready
So I’ve been wanting to read a book by Sarah Ready for a while now, but just haven’t had time to fit it in. When I saw this tour pop up I was so happy that I had room on my blog calendar to fit it in. And I was not disappointed in the least! I adored this story so much. Apart from a tiny bit at the very beginning that confused me until I got used to how the main character thought about things and talked them over to herself, I really liked it. There was a lot of funny banter and the main character was totally a klutz in so many ways, but so many of them were just the perfect set up to move the story along in a creatively hilarious way.
I had a feeling something about the quotes had to do with Josh, especially when Ian mentioned knowing him. And at times there were some undertones that totally reminded me of Bridget Jones and the relationship between Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver that Bridget got in the middle of and misunderstood based on whose side of the story she heard first. And when we got to one emotional part, towards the end, you know, the darkest night, or in this case the almost darkest night? I don’t know, oh my gosh it was soooooooo good! I was glad I had just reached the start of it at the end of my lunch break at work that day, because if I’d read on, and when I did read on later in the evening, I was in tears.
The IVF story-line was really interesting for me. My sister-in-law had to do that in order to have my niece. So I remember the shots she was giving herself when we were on our annual family weekend in Branson. And I know how emotional it can be when it doesn’t take, or you think it does, but then it doesn’t last.
So, yeah, I loved this one, and can’t wait to read more by this author in the future!
