A Veil of Gods and Kings by Nicole Bailey

2.5

I really didn't like this book. Which is sad because I really wanted to.

The modern language kept taking me out. "There you go being all badass again, I have to say I find it sexy"... No one in ancient greece was saying that.

The plot twist at the end
Artemis being a deity
was very practicable and I just didn't care that much.

I didn't really like or feel connected to any of the characters. Besides Artemis because she was the only one with any sense.

The romance wasnt that good either. It was marketed as an "enemies to lovers" but they really weren't enemies. They just didn't like each other. And for no real reason either. They found each other annoying and both just assumed that the other was a spoiled brat with no care for anyone else. And then when they realized they actually had empathy they couldn't keep their hands to themselves. I appreciated that the "spice" was very very minimal and mostly fade to black.

Also was epiphany real all that necessary? I didn't feel like she added anything to the plot and her chapters were so boring. She was just constantly whining about not being able to do what she wanted to do but as Artemis said, she was literally a princess... Her brother AND father clearly agreed that the women deserved to make choices for themselves and if she had just sat down and talked to them about it the whole problem wouldve been resolved.

And I really didn't care for her romance with the stable boy :/ her and artemis had way more chemistry and I get wanting to have aroace representation which I very much appreciate but aroace people can still be in love. Maybe I just have a basis because I didn't like Val all that much.

Also Temi? Pip? Cyn?? Val?? Em?? Not everyone needs a nickname and this book clearly didn't realize that.

The writing wasn't great. It was very Wattpad in my opinion.

The plot was okay sometimes. But why in the world are they teaming up with Zeus to take down Zeus????
