The Ghosts of Thorwald Place
by Helen Power
This book was written by my friend Helen! We met over IG and then she ended up moving here for work so we got to know each other a little bit pre-pandemic. I've been excited for her debut novel to come out and read it on publishing day. Described as a "genre-bending ghost story" and a "supernatural thriller", the story follows main character Rachel Drake, a shut in running from her past who ends up murdered in her building's elevator. She finds her soul tied to the elevator and surrounding area and is surprised to learn she wasn't the only one living in Thorwald Place with secrets as she observes the neighbors she knew little about during life and tries to solve her murder. As someone who prefers straight thriller/suspense to those with supernatural elements, I was thrilled to find that I really enjoyed it! There were some creepy/shocking moments but I was so intrigued by the characters and story that I wanted to keep reading and they didn't bother me. Well, done!
