This was a beautifully bizarre story for the first bit and the last bit, but that middle-ish bit - I just don't know how I felt about that. I adored Carrot and Simon and the Wonder Museum and Uncle Earl and Beau and the portal world though, so even if there were parts that I didn't quite love, overall this was an absolutely outstanding novel.
