Descendant of the Crane

I didn't know what to expect going into this, but I really liked it! It's very different from most historical fantasy I've read. I really enjoyed that it's a standalone, first of all, and I liked how open-ended the ending was.
I really liked that none of the characters were completely morally right or morally wrong. Everyone was kind of in the middle but could easily, and quickly, change sides. Hesina was a mess and really illustrated that 17 is probably too young to be in charge of an entire kingdom. To be fair, her parents kept a LOT of information from her, but dang. Things did not go her way!
