Incidents Around the House
by Josh Malerman
You guys cannot be serious. This book was literal cold grits. I hated everything up until the last chapter or two. I didn't feel any sort of fear until then, but I think my "fear" was just sadness for Bela. Her mother? Fucking sucks. The "Other Mommy"? Not as scary as the author wanted her to be. Felt like a Coraline rip-off. Bela calling her father "Daddo" the entire time? Obnoxious. And, sorry to say, she did not read like an 8 year old, rather 6... Or even 4...
The conversations these GROWN ASS adults were having to their child, regardless if they thought she was asleep or not, was just disgusting. I couldn't stand these people. How could they think an eight year old could/would/should understand these nihilistic monologues?! The real horror were these parents, my God!
