i wanted to love this so deeply (and completely thought i’d love it) but this left me with so many questions and zero answers. why was leah turning into some sort of unspecified water-creature? what happened to jelka? WHAT HAPPENED TO MATTEO? why did leah seemingly try and communicate with the big sea monster, but it feels like that ended so early? what was the centre? why did the centre disappear? i also felt that this was too long, at 80% i was like “this really feels like it couldve ended”. miri and leah also felt pretty flat which made me sad. just all in all i was disappointed. the writing though was very pretty and i highlighted so many lines, which is why this is getting two stars (+ i enjoyed how ominous the leah chapters felt)
