The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
5.0

The Way of Kings opens up with the King of Alethkar signs a treaty with the Parshendi, however on the night the treaty has been signed, the Parshendi sends an assassin and King Galivar is assassinated. War breaks out between the Alethi and Parshendi. Kaladin is a spearman in the army and kills a person and is made a slave. He tries to escape multiple times, but fails each time. Eventually he is assigned to be a Bridgeman, which is a death sentence. He keeps somehow surviving the runs and eventually tries to win the other Bridgemen in his crew. Shallan wants Jasnah, the sister of Elohkar to take her as a ward. If she can become a ward of Jasnah, then she can steal Jasnah’s soulcaster to save her family. Dalinar is the brother of Galivar and the uncle to the current King. He feels like the war can be won if they think differently and do stuff different. Also, during every highstorm he has visions and people thinks he is going mad. He even obsesses over Galivar’s last words and goes over the book The Way of Kings to find out meaning.
I saw a kid at the school I work out with The Rhythm of War, which is book four and I was like maybe I will find out what series it is from and read it since I like big books. I have been following Peruse Project on YouTube and she has been talking about the series a lot, so I decided I’m going to read this. Well, this book hooked me from the beginning and didn’t let me go. I freaking love Kaladin and my heart broke for him multiple times. I enjoyed the cast of characters and the world building. The friendships that were formed were great. This book was chef kiss. Pick this series up!
