Mother of Strangers
by Suad Amiry
This was heartfelt and lively with the themes being on erasure and occupation and lives being upended. It gives you a look at the daily lives of people here before everything went wrong. The message is strong and powerful but I had some issues... First, the writing went from animated and lovely to weird and clunky and it threw me off. Second, it's supposed to have tragic teenage romance which I didn't feel like there was much romance (and I'm ok with that it just feels a little misleading). Lastly, the sexual content was unnecessary. The narrator is a 15 year old boy. It just felt gross to read and I had to keep skipping over it.
