I have now read this novel both before and after seeing the screen adaptation. Thoughts...

1. This story is still super cute and really entertaining. Both of my kids also really enjoyed it. It's something different and heartwarming and just a fun read.

2. There are a lot of differences between the book and the movie (as often happens), but the core messages remain the same. I do think the movie comes off a bit...softer than the book, but perhaps that's because the book is more...rustic? I'm not sure how to explain that, but there is more of a natural and unpolished feel to the narrative (in a good way).

3. This is a series I could read again and again. I can easily see it as a favorite for my kids just based on their reaction to the first book. We just finished it and they are begging to start the sequel right away. That doesn't usually happen.

4. Roz is one of the best children's characters around. She's going to rank right up there with Charlotte the spider, Miss Honey, and the like. She's the child's version of Murderbot. That feels weird saying, but it also feels fairly correct...
