I’d heard this one recommended a lot for fans of The Secret History and I think I would have to concur with that statement! It’s nowhere near as elegant or well written but still worth a read, and if you’re a Shakespeare fan then you’ll definitely enjoy this one!

I did think some parts were actually a little too sneakily similar to The Secret History, some of the characters are eerily identical to TSH characters, and the friendship group is a ‘superior’ set of students at an elite arts school, so it’s drama instead of classics, but dynamics are there.

BUT even though it’s cheeky, if you’re a fan of the Secret History and never wanted that book to end, you won’t really be complaining, I know I wasn’t! The story is sufficiently different enough to keep you guessing, and I was riveted throughout the whole thing, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

Be warned that there are a lot Shakespeare passages quoted in this book, when they’re performing plays and they even quote it at each other in normal conversation. But I’m not a Shakespeare fan and this didn’t affect my experience much!

Definitely pick this one up if you’re in the mood for a dark, literary thriller!
