Nightmares! by Jason Segel
4.0

What a great fun read! At sometime everyone must learn to face their fears, but for Charlie that time will come sooner than for others. He has to protect not just himself but his little brother as well. He is convinced his stepmother is a witch biding her time until she can cook up his little brother and sell him bits and pieces in her herbatorium. After a few trips through dreamland Netherworld he is more sure than ever, and when the witch takes him through the portal he has no choice but to follow. In the Netherworld he meets friends and foes, and he must help others face their fears to escape from the President, and gain back his life. The book is full of wonderful imaginary and fanciful illustrations that keep the setting of the book. As I read the first few chapters I almost thought they were talking about me, as they describe the witch in the purple house. That just made this story more enjoyable. This makes a nice book for any age, and would work well as a read-aloud as well. Now time to scare up book 2.

For the main character his dad’s wedding is a disaster. He lost his mother and now a stepmonster is trying to replace her. Disastrous wedding.
