Thank you to Laurel Black for a copy in exchange for an honest review!!
Okay, what a solid start to a YA fantasy series! We start by jumping right into the action. Raven is enslaved in the mines of her enemies, the Rathalans. Her memories are gone and so is her magic! But while in the mines, she meets a girl who knows her and gives her a map that fuses to her hand, the map to the Zavien stone that everyone is after.
Including Jeddak! Together, they escape and embark on an adventure that has event after event testing the pair and Kah, the best bear to ever bear.
The positives! I thought the premise was unique and well crafted. I enjoyed the world building and never felt lost while trying to follow along with what was going on. Laurel also managed to surprise me with a few twists that I was not expecting and one that I was half expecting but was wrong about the culprit. HMMMMMM!!!
I felt sometimes the budding friendship and relationship between our two main characters was a little bit rushed, though that is pretty typical for YA novels I find.
Overall, a solid start and I am curious to see what happens next.
