Thor, Volume 1: The Goddess of Thunder
by Jason Aaron
Art is stunning, as expected.
The story was decent. It really wraps up by issue 4, 5 is more of the aftermath.
So Thor is unworthy. The hammer will not work for him anymore. Then a mysterious person picks up the hammer and the power of the gods is now in her hands! NO WAY!
The story is about as interesting as previous titles in Thor before Thor was a women. Which for me as always just been okay. There's not a storyline I really love.
However what did I like? The new Thor. She's super fun, her internal thoughts are a nice balance between her strong and brave dialog she throws out against the Ice Giants and such. I really enjoyed her moments and when she met with old Thor, was a lot of fun seeing them go head to head + the dialog was solid.
However, the issue 5 seemed sooooooo corny. I get they were trying to be meta about all the fans getting all pissy with the new changes. Have the villain scream out words you'd find on twitter like "The feminest are ruining everything" just came along as eye rolling. Don't get me wrong, people on twitter are eyeroll worth, but it's best to ignore idiots. Don't empower them by having their words in the books. It took me out. Then the women villain gives up because..."girl power" or some corny shit. This whole issue really just rubbed me the wrong way. And this is coming from someone who supports Miles being the main spider-man, Thor being a women, Falcon being the New Cap and so on. I love change, but don't try to shove it down my throat with bad meta like references of online comments.
Either way I'll check out more because I like Thor a lot here. I hope volume 2 and mighty Thor are even better.
