2025 re-read - i am so so happy I did a re-read of this is preparation for Human Rites - areas of improvement needed - tighter editing, cutting down on some of the leonie side quest scenes but overall a really strong middle book of a trilogy and the ending hit harder this time, felt like I missed the impact on my initial read. can't wait to get stuck into human Rites.
A clear middle book of a trilogy but
has built up the anticipation perfectly for book 3. I did prefer it to HMRC but that may be because I was used to the writing style and how the themes and messages are delivered to you as a reader. Still not sure how no-one outside of Theo figured out the Ciara thing earlier but it worked well for a very dramatic and action packed final third. All I can say is roll on Book 3 and the prequel taking us back to tudor times!
