Counting the Cost
by Jill Duggar
Jill is so brave for sharing her truth!
This book is so eye opening. I feel like I grew up with the Duggars. This family felt like my friends and when the news broke about J*sh and his horrible transgressions, I was heartbroken for the victims and for the family. I have read about his arrest and I am so glad he is where he belongs--PRISON.
I was absolutely shocked (but not necessarily surprised) that their religion was so misogynistic. "Dress modestly because boys have a harder time controlling their wandering minds" likeeeee wtf is that. how about you teach your boys to not be shitty humans? Lol The fact that "pops" demands so respect from his children but treats them so disposable people. Jill's meager attempt to ask for respect was met with turmoil and resistance. I really enjoyed "getting to know" Jill as a person and I really respect her for standing up for what she believes in.
I was glad Jill spoke about therapy and exploring who she is as person, instead of as a Duggar child. Respecting your parents is one thing, but asking for permission to wear pants as a 26 year old was absolutely bonkers to me. I think Jill is a wonderful person and mother and I am excited to see where her life takes her.
