Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
5.0
adventurous dark fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I’m in pain- and I think everyone who has read The Hunger Games knows how hard a book can hit you but Sunrise on the Reaping was devastating on another level. Is it that we already knew a lot of what would happen? Knowing that no matter what he’d do, his family and love would be killed? Suzanne Collin’s wrote this book to further explore propaganda and I think reading this with a critical lens along with all of her work is something everyone needs to be doing to really reflect on our space in the world and answer the question she poses in the Q + A “How much propaganda does it take to make you think that implicit submission is what you want? Is it inevitable?” I’ll be thinking and reflecting and patiently waiting for my heart to break when we see this in a year on the big screen.
