The Help
by Kathryn Stockett
This is one of those books that I feel like everyone should read. Simply put - it's powerful, emotional and thought provoking.
I read this book years ago and the characters have stayed deeply rooted in my reader heart over time. Kathryn Stockett's The Help is a beautifully and powerfully written story about race relations in the south. It's the 1960's a time when color represented a strong dividing line between the classes.
I simply adored Skeeter's relationship with Abileene & Minny. I can vividly recall having a strong attachment to the characters while reading. There was so much hate, ignorance, sexism and racism in the treatment of the Help. You can't help but feel for them. Yet, amidst all of that negativity there was also an overwhelming sense of love, faith, friendship, courage and strength.
