Praying for Rain
by B.B. Easton
I’m not one to usually read end of the world books but I decided to give Praying for Rain a try at the recommendation of my book club and I’m glad I did! Plus the synopsis sounded good! 4.5/5 stars.
“I have to get Rain back because I know something she doesn’t. Rainbow Williams is a fucking survivor. And I’m not done using her yet.”
April 23rd. That’s the day the world is supposed to end. And it’s only 3 days away. For Rain, in her town of Franklin Springs, Georgia, this means fear and chaos from everyone. People have fled the town in hopes of surviving elsewhere. Neighbors, friends, and family have turned on each other as supplies dwindle and the apocalyptic day draws near. As for Rain, she’s counting down the days until the pain she’s been pushing down and running from is no more. She’s ready to die.
“Supplies. Shelter. Self-defense.”
This is Wes Parker’s mantra. He’s not ready to die and believes he can survive the end of the world. He’s gotten this far in life with his instincts and the end of the world is not any different. It’s no coincidence that he finds himself in the town of Franklin Springs. And as luck would have it, he meets Rain. His ticket to surviving.
Both are running from demons in their past: one intent on surviving and the other on surviving until the apocalypse. I loved getting to know Wes and Rain. They are flawed characters that just tugged on my heartstrings once I got to know more about them. Although the story takes place over a few days there’s so much we learn. About why Rain is ready for death. About why Wes decided Franklin Springs was the place to go. About how everyone heard about the apocalypse and if there’s any chance of surviving it. And of course about how even in the midst of craziness going on, sometimes love can happen.
If you’re looking for a steamy, end of the world book that will leave you wanting more, Praying for Rain is the book for you! It is a trilogy so keep that in mind. I’m planning on reading the next 2 as soon I can!
