Gantz /9
by Hiroya Oku
Holy hell I forgot how good Gantz gets later. So spoilers for those who haven't read up until this point. Stop reading. Okay ready? Everyone is dead except Kei. He's trying to deal with it the best he could. Act like nothing matters to him. Except this time he's thrown into a hunt without ANY teammates. NO NEW ONES. He faces off against these ugly little dudes with big ass hands ready to whoop his ass. This volume breaks up that plus heading back to the real world. That's right this hunt is super short but action packed!
The second half involves Kei back in the real world pretty scared to go back into the world of Gantz. He just has had enough. Except these aliens or monsters aren't done with him yet. What happens when they cross into our world? OH SHIT!
What I liked: The fight between the new enemy is scary as hell. Kei is alone and we know this series doesn't mind killing off main characters. There's one moment in particular where I was like "Yep this is the end" but NOPE! We are saved. Also the classroom scene is...wow. I love the commentary on death too. Also the final few moments of this chapter are horrifying and wonderful.
What I didn't like. Some of the chapters feel so short because it just has Kei jumping from building to building. The first two chapters are insanely short and give off an impression this volume won't be that good.
Overall Gantz is hitting into high gear and you can see changes in Kei happening slowly. Sure he's still selfish prick but sometimes you see that shell break and see he cares. There's one moment too when he becomes a hero and it's pretty awesome. This is a high 4 out of 5 for me.
