The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett
4.0

When I first heard the title of this book, I assumed it was a romance novel with a male duke. Then I read the blurb and bought it on impulse, realising it was actually a polar fantasy with a female lead who becomes a duke. When I started reading it I was intrigued by the unusual mix of political intrigue and fairy tale.

It's not a new favourite, I enjoyed the story but it wasn't outstanding and the ending was a bit underwhelming (though by no means bad). I would have liked the fairy tale aspect to be stronger, particularly in the second half. It was compelling though, and I liked how different it felt to other fantasy I've read. I also quite liked how the romance progressed between the Duke and a foreign princess.
