hello and welcome to the very scattered reviews by moi! today imma be finally reviewing Field Notes On Love, a book about two strangers who end up taking a train ride across America.

so let’s begin with the things in this book that i enjoyed!

i really enjoyed the writing style in this story. it read easily but was still pretty descriptive of the things around Mae and Hugo. it found a beautiful way to give you wonderful visuals without spending pages and pages. the story managed to paint a picture in my mind.

the mellowness of the story was also great. it was a very character driven story, which i came to find out that i didn’t really mind that. i really liked the ideas behind Mae and Hugo.

speaking of characters, Mae and Hugo were wonderful. they were two very fleshed our characters with their own lives and their own little quirks. the characters in this story were all very and fully fleshed out. Hugo’s siblings and his parents: amazing. i loved all six of the kids. especially Alice. i also really adored Mae’s dads and her Nana.

the open ending of the story was one thing that i really REALLY liked. we really got a happy ending, something we wanted, while still getting to construct and debate our own ending in our minds. maybe Mae did this, maybe Hugo did that. we’ll never know, will we?

the only issue i have with this story was one part that kind of dragged? the part where they were on the train just headed to LA. it dragged a...a bit.

all in all this story was, like, 10x better than E. Smith’s other novel, Windfall.
