A story that cycles and twists and folds in on itself in way that makes it feel like reality is sliding away. However, the book often unnecessarily points out where motifs/images/plots are repeating. Characters are all held at an arm's length, including multiple flat women characters all strangely invested in a protagonist who seems to have no positive qualities.
