Venom: Dark Origin by Zeb Wells
3.0

This tells the past of Eddie before he gets the venom suit and when he has it.

The title doesn't lie. This shit is pretty dark.

Remember Eddie being an asshole in the 80's? Well what about if Eddie stole kittens and then gave them back to make himself look good. Or forcefully grab a girl in High School. OR COVER A MURDERER FOR A STORY. This is Eddie before he becomes the Semi-anti-hero that he is now days. It only gets worse when his life gets worse as that's when he has the faithful meeting of Venom. With Venom and him together they decide to payback Peter/Spider-man.

Overall, this is a lot darker than I expected. The first two issues heavily focus on Eddie's upbringing and you can kind of see why he's a asshole. Then it gets even darker when he covers up murders for a killer to get a story. Then even worse when he gets the Venom suit and decides to pay MJ a visit, really creepy rapey vibes. The wacky art, especially the overexaggerate faces and movements can be jarring at points, while other times the action looks smooth as butter. Overall, this was weird ready, yet I won't lie, I couldn't stop reading. I wouldn't say it's a must read but something different. Not Zeb Wells best but you can't win them all.

A 3 out of 5.
