I picked this from my library after seeing a few people loving this. It did sound interesting but at the same time I didn't know if I would like it or not. I sometimes struggle with historical fiction.

It started off slow. One chapter felt like it took my a while to read. But I was enjoying it, just was also confused. Which I had seen a few people mention so I expected it.

Once it got to part two, which is set in the past, things started to make more sense. Some of the things that confused me about part one made more sense. Even some small moments I didn't think meant much turned out to be more important once you got the backstory.

I think setting it out the way Bridget did made the book better. Having you see some 'present day' than giving you the backstory made me more connected to the characters. Instead of jumping between past and present with alternative chapters.

Emmett and Lucian story I didn't see coming. But I wanted happiness for both of them.
