TW: dystopia, eugenics, slavery, slurs used against lower class people and other similarities to real life treatment of enslaved people (which the author seemed to incredibly not put two-and-two together on) death, blood, vomit, infidelity, sexual assault and attempted rape, internalised misogyny

A clever play on the YA dystopian genre, though the dystopia in this world is very much everyday life for people of color in our reality and that honestly should have been picked up on before publishing. It was very white-centric and lacked any sensitivity on the topic in the writing or editing process. The very white cast could not wait to escape and get home to where "all are treated equal" (these girls are from Briton for Pete's sake). Book would easily been better scored if this huge elephant in the room had been hearded out first.

Great multiple twists though and quite good characters.
