This book is great upon a first reading, but I’ve really warmed to it more and more over time. The breadth and depth of what it communicates within such a small focus is staggering. The illustrations are engaging for even small children. So much thought has been put into endpapers, back matter, representation, and history. It is a deeply teachable book in the package of a beautifully simple story.
