I was worried because collections of stories are hit and miss for me. These stories, focusing on characters torn between life in Haiti and the US, each tugged at my heart. The writing is beautiful and poignant and it was a reminder to me that some of the things I take for granted are things that haven't come so easily to others. Each story had a distinct moment in which my breath caught and I thought, "Oh wow."

I was trying to choose a favorite story to talk about in my review, but each story was my favorite in its own way. I loved the wide array of emotions this book gifted to me.
