The Host
by Stephenie Meyer
Reread thoughts: I read this first as a 7th grader back in 2012/2013. I can’t remember for sure, but I was obsessed with this book then, which I’m enthralled to say still applies to 2021 Lauren. It’s a full circle moment. This book isn’t incredibly action packed. It’s slow and steady, and it certainly wins the race. I find the only weird part to be that Stephenie chose to add the detail that Wanda’s new host was 17, so she was technically underage (tho some states say age of consent is 17) and needed to lie so she wouldn’t have to wait to be with Ian. Ummmm I think you could’ve scratched that detail Steph. Melanie’s detail about it made sense, but making the comment and joke with Wanda just wasn’t the vibe.
