Moral Combat: How Sex Divided American Christians and Fractured American Politics by R. Marie Griffith
slow-paced
5.0
SUCH a necessary book. Goes decade by decade through the last century to investigate the main issues that have split apart Christians, finds how they all centered sex/sexuality/sexual hierarchy/gender relations, and analyzes how they have created polarization/divisions within US politics. Pretty dry writing but very in-depth and well-researched.
Graphic: Homophobia, Misogyny, Racial slurs, Racism, Violence, Religious bigotry
Moderate: Sexual violence, Slavery, Sexual harassment
Minor: Hate crime, Miscarriage, Transphobia, Abortion
Chapter 3 includes a few explicit/graphic depictions of lynchings. Quotes throughout are uncensored, including racist/homophobia/sexist language/slurs. Religious bigotry is obviously discussed throughout.
