This Here Flesh: Spirituality, Liberation, and the Stories That Make Us
by Cole Arthur Riley
"Find those who tell you, Do not be afraid, yet stay close enough to tremble with you. This is a love."
This is a book that I will read again and again, and every time will feel like the first time. In this book, Cole has given us such insights into all facets of life: love, suffering, loss, joy, and all the things that make being human such a rich experience. Our lives are filled with so much, and Cole invites us to take notice of it all, even the toughest and ugliest parts of it, through this beautiful writing about her life and history. Her words will grab you, both in the sense that she demands your undivided attention, and in the sense that she will bring you along on this journey.
"In lament, our task is never to convince someone of the brokenness of this world; it is to convince them of the world's worth in the first place. True lament is not born from that trite sentiment that the world is bad but rather from a deep conviction that it is worthy of goodness."
