» PLOT «
Lilac's birthright and marriage makes her the Queen of Renovia and of Stavin. But being a ruler does not mean making the rules. For Lilac, taking the throne means giving up the opportunity to be with love of her life, Caledon Holt. As Cal is forced to leave the castle when a set of magical attacks threatens Lilac's sovereignty, they must battle dark forces separately, both yearning to be with each other.

Boy was that ending fast and anticlimactic.
One single arrow to take down a king that was literally distracted/blinded by feathers. All that build up for a quick death, and then the last 10% of the book was dedicated to resolving Caledon and Lilac's relationship.
It really demonstrates that this book/series is primarily a romance, not a fantasy.

Otherwise, it is not a bad ending, I'm just a bit perplexed and miffed at the fact that the Kingdom of Stavin will no longer have
a ruler with true Stavin royal blood
.

Also, why did we need to know that Lilac is
having twins
? Like not only was it random, but it was unnecessary and did not get the intended "OMG" reaction from me.

» READABILITY «
This wasn't hard to read (but not easy either), and the ending was really rushed.

» CHARACTERS «
One of the characters, Hanson, flips back and forth between tolerable to intolerable, especially with the issue of the facade he has set up with Lilac. This is mainly an issue with the fact that he is allowed to have an affair, but she isn't. Yes, I understand the reasoning in it in a world without paternity tests, but even with that, he was a hypocrite. And at the end,
NONE OF IT MATTERED ANYWAYS
.

» WRITING «
The writing isn't bad, not much to say.

» OVERALL «
I don't regret reading this series, but it was really nothing special
