I found this novel at my local dollar store. I picked it up on a whim, and now I have found an author I love!

I love historical fiction and paranormal fiction, so the story-line is exactly what I look for. The novel revolves around a psychiatrist who has taken a job at a castle-cum-prison, where the worst murderers are imprisoned. The doctor is slowly snared into their mind-games, the small-minded bickering politics between the other staff at the castle, and the fog of superstitions held by the locals in the valley below. This is a gothic horror.

I have since read other novels by Russell, and love this one the most!
