Cycle Of The Werewolf
by Stephen King
"Her store is failing by inches, and she weighs too much, but now, on this night of dreams with the moon a bitter blue flood through frost-traced windows, it seems to her that love is still a possibility, love and the scent of summer as he> comes."
I offhandedly said on a Booktube video last week that I did not think this book was up to much; I had only read one Chapter. I guess considering my rating of this book I was wrong:)
This is either a long short story or short novella that has been illustrated by Berni Wrightson. Please note the placement of the illustration sometimes before the text can act as a spoiler as so often happens with illustrated novels! It takes place in twelve chapters with each chapter being the monthly visit from the werewolf (terrible liberties are taken with falling of the full moon on dates such as St Valentines, Fourth of July etc - but we will forgive that)
As Stephen has a shorter space to work with he gets away with some more flowery, atmospheric prose than he does in his longer novels (see the opening quote and closing quote). As always he draws his characters well and well the kid is the hero. You gotta love Mr. King's heroes.
Recommended to Library users as the book is so hard to get a copy of. If you obtain a copy and don't enjoy it I will gladly provide you with my postal details :)
"Later, no one will be able to say where the sound came from; it was everywhere and nowhere as the full moon painted the darkened houses in the village, everywhere and nowhere as the March wind began to rise and moan like a dead Berserker winding his horn, it drifted on the wind, lonely and savage."
