Most of the time when I read middle grade fantasy books, I can enjoy them despite being not being in the target audience. That sadly wasn't the case with Dragon Mountain. There were a lot of themes and events that a child would love, and perhaps imagine themselves experiencing, but as an adult things happened far too easily, problems were resolved with too little effort to really enjoy the story. I also didn't really find the characters very interesting, even the dragons. It's a shame, but hopefully lots of children will love the book even if I don't.
