If you are looking for:

— truly simmering female rage,
— an outstanding grumpy/sunshine enemies to lovers,
— the “i don’t belong here” feeling in elite academia, or
— cider and blackcurrant, babes and scooby doo,

Look no further than The Society for Soulless Girls.

I could try to write some sort of well thought out review right now but I do not have the brain power nor, honestly, the ability even if I had the headspace. The short story is… wow, I think this might possibly be my favourite book.

To expand, this was a rip roaring, heart wrenching, spine tingling scream of a book which had me both struggle to put it down and fight against my urges to binge it to savour each page. For a retelling of a book I could barely make a headway in I was pleasantly impressed, though not at all surprised the sapphic, feminist supernatural thriller latched onto me so easily.

If I ignore how much I loved the characters (I can’t), the slow burn romance that felt real (and you know me and romance), the parts that made me laugh out loud (I can’t remember the last book that made me do that), and the bits I read aloud to anyone who would listen (sorry Mum), I can’t express how much I adored the small things that made this book. Be it the description of Edinburgh that actually felt like the city I know and love, the round of cider and blackcurrant, Hafsah’s nerdiness, Alice’s struggles with wanting to fit in, Lottie’s Griddle factor… I could not help but fall in love with it.

More books like this pls. Ta very much.
