Parts of this book I LOVED: the setting! Beautifully written descriptions of wintery forests and the monsters within them. Also loved the parts where mythology and lore were explained. Would love a whole collection of fairy tales written by this author. Where I felt a little let down, though, were character relationships and motivations. There were things that seemed to be set up for something really great in the finale, but never really came to any sort of conclusion which was disappointing (and I don't believe this is getting a sequel so it's not like they were left open or unfinished to be addressed later on). Definitely want to read more by this author as this was still a great debut, and will probably reread this one in the future as well.
