The Gilded Ones
by Namina Forna
3.5 stars rounded up.
✨Feminism✨ at its finest. There is great growth within the main character and a very satisfying ending. The only reason it is not 4 or 5 stars is that at times the story was slow, and quite a few times predictable with all the hints thrown in (that the main character took forever to pick up on of course).
That being said, I’d excuse it because it’s YA, but it doesn’t feel very YA. There is tremendous violence and bloody scenes that are decently graphic and lots more cussing than a YA typically is allowed to have.
Overall, good book. But not perfect. I’ll read the second one closer to the release of the third book.
