Make Room for Love
by Darcy Liao
This was very much a character-driven book and I have to say that I really liked that. With less plot and stakes, I feel like the story had much more time to focus on the characters and the forming relationship between them - and not just that, but also relationships with their families and friends, and their struggles as well. All of these things allowed for the characters to feel much more deep and realistic, which I always like to see in contemporary fiction.
Mira and her work with the union was a great way not only to show her growth as a person, but also to bring to light the parts of academia people don't talk about as much. Compared to how she felt approaching strangers at the beginning of the story, I just couldn't help but adore how she stood for herself and her opinions later on. She was such a heartwarming person to read about! I loved Isabel as well, with her complicated relationships and her struggles, the way she also found a way to talk about her feelings more and the expectation she put on herself after the death of Alexa.
The rep was honestly so nicely written as well, both Mira's and Isabel's.
I might have struggled a bit with the reading but I think it was more because of my current mood as opposed to the quality of the book.
I received an ARC from the author.
