The Rosie Effect
by Graeme Simsion
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was very disappointing.
While the first book was very believable, fun, and quirky, this one seemed to be relying too much on past success and not enough on actual plot. In just one book, Don is told by an angry woman, "do the world a favor-- don't procreate!" on the day he finds out he will be a father. He is picked up by the police under suspicion of being a pedophile, AND he is profiled as a potential terrorist while on a flight. I mean seriously. What are the odds that all of this would happen within the span of two months?
Also, Rosie and Don had basically the cutest love story ever in the first book. In this one, all of the sudden Rosie falls out of love with Don and decides there is no way he's father material? Honey, you should have figured that out BEFORE you decided to marry him.
I had high hopes going into this book because the first one has been a two-time 5 star read for me, and unfortunately this one just didn't hit the mark.
2.25/5 stars
