The Gentleman's Gambit by Evie Dunmore
3.5

I overall had a fine time with this but I think it was the weakest of the series and the only one that didn't feel like it could stand alone. It was odd to throw in a new character when the rest of the series had been building for Catriona's match to someone else. The backstory elements for both Catriona and Elias often felt lazy, with whole scenes inserted in without reference to what was actually happening in their present. The ending was for the series rather than the book - we got a perspective from each of the other main girls and then an epilogue of them getting the vote. It felt like fan service and most of the dialogue was inevitable and stilted. It also meant we didn't get a fully satisfying ending for this book's narrative.
