The Upside of Unrequited
by Becky Albertalli
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!
It gave me all the feels, crying, happy, sad, angry, worried, ugh! I can’t express it enough. This story hit close to home in so many ways. I felt like my jr high and high school self was Molly. The way Molly felt about her crushes and thinking they didn’t like her because of how she looked, the way she felt about her friends and sister being able to have anyone they want and how she could never imagine a boy like that liking a girl like herself. It all felt so close to me of how I used to feel.
When marriage equality was legal- OMG, seriously teared up and got so many butterflies. I instantly thought of Stef and Lena from The Fosters.
The characters, relationships and friendships felt so real to me and i loved how everyone cared about each other. I did read this after finishing Simon verse but hearing simons name again and knowing that he has a bf kinda felt like i had to read this after the fact.
Becky is an absolutely phenomenal writer and after reading all her books she’s truly one of my new fav authors. I will read anything she writes and i will definitely be going out to purchase a hard copy of Upside down because I want to support Becky any ways I can!
The Upside of Unrequited gives you every reason to believe that good things happen when you least expect it.
