An Act of Deceit by Jennifer L. Jennings
4.0

This is the second book in the Sarah Woods series. This is a short story/novella. I have really enjoyed both of these books. Sarah is just very easy to relate to. Nothing in these mysteries feels contrived. There are no sterotype characters or attempt to copy a certain style.
The second book starts off pretty much where the first book left off. Sarah's decided to try a little private detecting. She works with Carter on her first case. She is hired to prove a married man has been cheating on his wife. Sure enough he's a serial cheat. So, only a short time after he's busted, he gets hit by a van and is killed. But, his wife, depite her husband's philandering, doesn't think it was an accident. So, Sarah and Carter investigate.
Meanwhile, Sarah's home life hasn't improved a great deal. She still feels deserted by her teenage son, who is in his first relationship and spends all his time with his girlfriend. Her husband travels three weeks out a the month, and when he is home, is a jerk. (IMO) Sarah, keeps her massage therapy business, and hires an uncle as the receptionist. I really like Sammy. I think he has Sarah's husband pegged. Max makes an apperance a few times as well, and his feelings for Sarah haven't changed. But, anyway, Sarah really enjoys being a private investigator more than running her business. She does a great job, but does make a near fatal mistake.
There is more to come in this series and I think poor Sarah is in for a rude awakening when it comes to her personal life.
This story is very easy to get into. I'm looking forward to the next book. Over all a B+
