The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
4.0

This was a very interesting read. Overall, I'd say go for it! Though I was 200 pages in and wasn't quite sure what the plot was. There was a lot wrong with the story world and in the protectorate, but I didn't feel there was very clear direction in the story, and things were just kind of happening.

At the same time though, it was a beautiful book. The writing was gorgeous, the story world was beautiful, and the ideas were brilliant. I loved the ending. I thought it was all wrapped up pretty well.

I would have liked to read more of Luna's character. Going into the story, I was expecting it to be about her, but I'm still not quite sure who the main character was. No one had a clear character arc (that I could see, at least), and it kind of hopped around a lot.

To sum it up, I'd say this book is definitely worth the read, but don't go into it wanting to be entertained for hours. It's the kind of book you can read over several weeks. It's easy to put down, but the beauty of the world calls you back to pick it up again after too long.
