How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
4.0

"That is the whole thing with the future. You don't know. At some point you have to accept that you don't know. You have to stop flicking ahead and just concentrate on the page you are on."

Summary: Tom Hazzard has a rare condition of aging slowly - he has been alive for hundreds of years. Tom has spent most of his life accepting that he can't grow close to anyone due to the dangers of his secret. But when he returns to London, a city from his past, he begins to wonder about things he never let himself have - love, family, stability, and an ordinary life.

Review:
⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really loved the Midnight Library and am always intrigued by speculative fiction. This one has such an interesting concept.

What I enjoyed
- The themes and values of this story (see quote above) about living in the present and choosing freedom from fear.
- Seeing Tom's various experiences throughout the ages. Kind of like Addie LaRue ☺️
- The plot points related to the mysterious Albatross Society and Tom's mission to find his daughter who has the same rare condition that he does
- Tom's arc as a teacher - fun fact that I used to be a high school math teacher, so I can super relate to his experiences lol

What I didn't enjoy as much
- I have trouble getting fully engrosses in books that time jump sporadically. This one was a little all over the place, but some people enjoy that!
- Similarly, the plot meandered pretty slowly... I felt like it really only picked up 75% of the way through. Although taking it slow might have been a moral of the story
