Stiff Penalty
by Annelise Ryan
Mattie is in quite a bind, as usual, when the book starts. She's pregnant, single (sort of?), and the target of a mysterious stalker. This book does a good job of delving into her family history as well as exploring her own fears about her future with her child and Hurley. I thought the mysteries were well developed and entertaining. I didn't like the structure of the book: chapters with Mattie in therapy flashing back to events months or weeks prior. It felt overly dramatic and artificial. A chronological structure would have worked better, in my opinion.
